I enjoyed my time with this story from Marit and her siblings at the bakery, muffin talk, and Adam with the wolf-shifter pack at Shooting Star Lake.

Strom does a good job of setting up the world, and hooking us with details of things to come. When we meet Marit, she is weeks away from her wedding and finds her fiance’ in bed with their wedding planner. When Adam, an alpha wolf, bumps into her on his way to the bakery, his wolf recognizes her as his mate.

I loved fated mates and was able to look past her ex-fiancé, especially considering his motives. The author did a great job of showing us that Marit was more angry than devastated by their engagement ending. The attraction between Marit and Adam felt genuine, and their chemistry was off the charts.

My only grip was Marit bringing up Bryce in the bedroom. It was weird and awkward. Aside from that I had no complaints. I enjoyed all the characters from Adam’s family to Marit’s. Some of my favorite characters were Zane, an alpha enforcer and woodworker, Xander, an alpha who wants to be a chef and Marit’s pup.

The current suspense thread wraps up with some closure and the promise of more trouble to come. We see hints of the next romance and even get an epilogue that made me smile.

I am looking forward to learning more about the black stone, the pack and the threat on the horizon. The author shared some of the history without info dumps, giving the story a pleasant flow. Fans of shifter romances, fated romances and suspense will want to give the series a go.

HEARTLESS OBSESSION

Ruben Elustondo’s Heartless Obsession is a potent, emotional journey that meticulously explores the compelling dimensions of drama, romance, and, most notably, betrayal. Engaging readers from the outset, this novel plunges you into a whirlwind of emotions while delving into the labyrinthine intricacies of human relationships, familial treachery, and the shadowy aspects of love.

At the heart of the narrative is Christina McGregor, a spirited bride-to-be who is tragically betrayed by her closest friend and future spouse a mere ten days before her nuptials. Oblivious to the duplicitous machinations of her best friend, fixated on usurping her fiancé and her father’s wealth, Christina embarks on a Caribbean cruise, attempting to gain perspective and contemplate her future. Yet, unbeknownst to her, the deceitful pair concocts an elaborate ruse to beguile Christina’s inner circle into absolving their wrongdoings and accepting the fiancé’s hollow protestations of innocence.

The captivating allure of Heartless Obsession stems largely from Elustondo’s storytelling prowess, mirroring the depth and diversity of emotions that are poignantly reflective of real-life scenarios. The author’s aptitude for crafting credible and empathetic characters remains a cornerstone of the book’s appeal. Christina’s vulnerability invokes a profound resonance with the reader, eliciting ardent support for her plight, while Kevin’s transgressions serve to enhance the novel’s enigma and emotional trajectory. As the title suggests, the theme of betrayal features prominently within the novel. Elustondo’s astute portrayal of its destructive repercussions and its potential to derail lives and relationships is commendably realistic.

The narrative, rich with intricate complexities, contributes significantly to the story’s allure. Heartless Obsession captivates readers with an enthralling and thought-provoking read, seamlessly marrying joyous entertainment with insightful reflections on the human condition.

EVEN FLOWERS KNOW THAT WATER IS USELESS WITHOUT ROOTS: Poetry, Essays, and Stories

Even Flowers Know That Water Is Useless Without Roots by Gloria D. Gonsalves is a multifaceted literary journey divided into two captivating sections. The first one immerses the reader in a collection of poignant, vibrant, and gripping poems, all of which narrate the author’s life experiences growing up in Tanzania. Gonsalves, who proudly exhibits her Tanzanian roots, vividly captures the essence of her culture, shedding light on notable individuals, personal experiences, educational environments, and distinguished landmarks.

The book’s second section transitions to an eclectic mix of short stories, encapsulating a wide range of themes. From the thrills of travel to the trials and tribulations of growing up, from unique glimpses into her professional life to the delightful inclusion of an exquisite prawn recipe, Gonsalves weaves a diverse narrative. Some of the poems are written in the author’s native language, providing an enriching cultural immersion, with English translations ensuring accessibility for all readers. This dual narrative structure offers the reader a comprehensive overview of life in Tanzania and a personal window into Gonsalves’s world.

My appreciation for African culture was invigorated as I delved into the pages of this book. The richness, uniqueness, and captivating allure of the culture, paired with the warmth and hospitality of its people, resonate throughout the text. Gonsalves’s profound love for her homeland is palpable in each detail she meticulously shares. While the narrative primarily focuses on Tanzanian culture, the universal themes and experiences relayed in the book will resonate with a broad range of readers, particularly those from other African nations.

Gonsalves’s ability to translate her emotions into evocative storytelling is genuinely commendable. Beyond the fluidity of the poetry, the short stories offer delightful interludes that paint vivid portraits of her life journey, spanning her early years, experiences of growth, and adulthood transitions.

Even Flowers Know That Water Is Useless Without Roots is an enriching read that educates about Tanzanian culture and inspires readers to engage with the beauty of poetry. I discovered new aspects of Tanzanian culture and even picked up some phrases in the local language. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone with a love for poetry and an interest in African culture. So, why wait? Let’s embark on a fascinating exploration of Tanzania through Gonsalves’s luminous writing!

Calm In The Face Of Chaos

Teresa LaBella Author Interview

Danger Revealed follows two private detectives who are investigating the case of a missing diplomat and stumble into a larger crime ring than anticipated. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

The tragedy of human trafficking was brought home to my Iowa hometown while I was working as a freelance journalist covering county government. The busiest truck stop along Interstate 80, which moves traffic across the U.S. from Boston to San Francisco, is located in Walcott, Iowa. The series of articles I wrote from interviews with local police, politicians, business owners, and victim advocates, as well as a documentary produced on the victims trafficked from Iowa to Chicago, inspired the story of Rayen. Reading My Father’s Ghost is Climbing in the Rain, a novel by Patricio Pron, prompted my interest and research into the Dirty War in Argentina. The horrors and atrocities of human rights abuse, past and present, became linked in the layers of plot and people struggling to connect and make sense of it all in Danger Revealed.

With so many memorable characters in this novel, who was your favorite character to write for and why? Was there a scene you felt captured the character’s essence?

The multi-faceted persona and intensely personal experience of Lucas Dominguez inspired me to write this story. In the scene from the chapter titled “War of Words”, Lucas negotiates for Rayen’s life with the primary protagonist Otto Hermann, aka Octavio Hernandez. His calm in the face of chaos, using words to build a common bridge of personal history between himself and the criminal holding a knife to Rayen’s throat, personifies the refugee from homeland violence who found strength in freedom and serves his country of choice helping others who risk everything to live as they choose.

How do you balance story development with shocking plot twists? Or can they be the same thing?

I’ve discovered that as the story develops, the plot twists are revealed. The balance in writing suspense and thriller depends on who knows what and when both as the characters interact in the world of fiction built between the pages and in the mind of the reader.

What is the next book in The UnMatchables series that you are working on, and when will it be available?

Kelly and Eddie’s third case picks up where Danger Revealed left off with the demand that Eddie rewrite a true crime novel to save the new client’s reputation and possibly his life. That story will take shape at an unknown date as I’m currently writing the second novel in my uniquely-Canadian political thriller series. Lucas, Tori and Rayen are back and caught up in the mystery of a minister’s death and a nefarious network determined to seize control of government. I’m enjoying the challenge of crossing over characters from one genre and placing them in an entirely different setting and situation.

Displaced by force. Haunted by their past. Fear for the future.
Tori Deane gets no answers from the Canadian consulate when her diplomat lover Lucas Dominguez goes missing. Chicago police won’t help her. The UnMatchables private investigators Eddie Emerson and Kelly Gillespie are Tori’s last hope.
Eddie and Kelly uncover evidence that Lucas has returned to the country of his childhood that was ripped apart by the Dirty War. An undeliverable money order sent to Buenos Aires from a bodega in a neighbourhood Kelly dreads may be the lead they need to heat up a cold case.
The danger revealed points to the sordid underworld of human trafficking ruled by a ruthless crime boss who hides his past behind an alias. Argentine refugee Rayen Vasquez is desperately seeking a way out and away from Octavio Hernandez, aka Otto Hermann, that only Lucas can give her.
Time isn’t on The UnMatchables side.
Canada has deployed an elite law enforcement team with orders to recover their diplomat. Chicago PD has spread a wide net to snare smugglers and cripple the illegal transport of guns, drugs and people.
Hermann is on the run. His reason for keeping Rayen alive is about to expire.

I Want To Assist Others With Healing

Kez Wickham St George Author Interview

Jigsaw follows a young girl growing up in a dysfunctional home who, at 17, is married off to an abusive man and is unable to gain help to escape the situation. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

The inspiration was to assist others so that they also can heal in many ways, be journaling or writing about the journey in this world and the opportunities we have to grow and heal ourselves.

This is a deeply emotional story told with sensitivity and awareness of the topics covered. Was there anything from your own life that you put into the characters in your novel?

It was mainly about me, my publisher knew I had a story, and it was emotionally complex, so advised me to write it as 3rd party.

This story talks about childhood trauma and the lasting effects it has on women and the struggle they face to escape their situations and build a life for themselves. What is one thing that people point out after reading your book that surprises you?

You Learn so much about their private lives; what I know for sure is deep trauma may not leave marks on our bodies but in the heart and mind.

What is the next novel that you are working on, and when will that be available?

I am writing Tapestry book two (2) of the trilogy the storyteller; this was inspired by my female descendants, as they come together from the 16th century to the 22nd century. To tell me their stories, very paranormal and poignant to Jigsaw.

Author Links: GoodReads | Twitter | Facebook | Website

Once again, the author proves her skills as an incredible storyteller that draws you into a hidden world of parental childhood trauma.
As a young child, her one thought was to escape the abuse from the ones she should trust. Her mum with her deep angry emotional trauma and her sibling, who would quite happily dispose of her existence. No one can help her, why? Because it’s secreted away inside the family home. Married off at seventeen to a narcissistic alcoholic to appease the demands of the cult her family belong to. Cassie soon discovers no one cares, not the cult leaders, her family or the police. In the late 1900s it’s termed as a domestic dispute. Poverty of mind and body is a everyday occurrence in this naive child’s life. Knowing to escape this life there are two ways, the first to imitate the maternal women folk in her family before her by suicide, or by running as far away as possible. But where?
Jigsaw is not only an escape story, a love story, and a story of modern-day sadistic insurgency of the patriarchal system. It’s an awakening for Cassie as she fights for her rights as a woman. Jigsaw is a story of a woman rebirthing in all ways to be who she is today. It’s also a paranormal story that cannot be explained nor be navigated.
