Where the lovelight gleams …

A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams.

In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, she enters a contest with instafamous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, she might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on the application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only … there is no boyfriend.

Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just came home for some hot chocolate, and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process.

Sophia Rose’s Review

A Christmas tree farm as a holiday destination was her dream, but a series of bad circumstances have the rustic New England farm barely staying afloat.  Only a Hallmark-style holiday miracle will save it.  A social influencer’s small business contest, a fake boyfriend scenario and a little bit of luck are all Stella needs to turn things around.  BK Borison is a new to me author, but I barely made it out of the first chapter before I knew I would have a good time with Lovelight Farms.

Lovelight Farms is the first in a series of small town standalone romantic comedies and features awkward, adorable Stella Blooms who bought into a dream with a rundown Christmas tree farm and her long-time best friend now acting as fake boyfriend, Luka Peters.  Everyone in town and their circle know about the sparks coming off Stella and Luka, but Stella’s fears of abandonment and fear of losing her bestest of best friends has her settling for this one week of pretend with Luka and convincing herself that afterward things would carry on as usual- quirky little pine air freshener gifts left for her to find, Italian cooking in her kitchen, and all.  Fooling Evelyn St. James and winning the prize are Stella’s goals, but she wonders what Luka is getting from all this when he seems to be all in playing her boyfriend and helping as a partner around the farm.

Lovelight Farms has all the hallmarks of a solid holiday romantic comedy.  I will admit to wanting to smack Stella upside her deeply denying head for letting her fear keep her from such a good thing right through to the end and the vague and somewhat unbelievable background of her life heretofore had to be a ‘let go and enjoy the story’.  So many wonderful scenes including some great swoony ones play out and there was a light mystery involving sabotage at the farm.  The friends to lovers romance is at the heart, but small town quirks, Stella trying to keep all the balls in the air including the big lie she is keeping from Evelyn and another from her friends about the state of the farm, engaging friends and employees in irascible Beckett and sweet Layla, and all the friend memories and traditions she’s established with Luka made this deeply satisfying.

I’m so glad to note that the series continues with the others getting their own romances with the farm and town at the heart of it all.  Small town romcom fans should definitely get in on this sparkling feel-gooder.

Magic, Mystery, and the Multiverse by Aurora Winter is a captivating tale that follows the enthralling journey of siblings Ana and Zackary through a wondrous and magical Multiverse. Ana, with aspirations of becoming an actress in Hollywood, stumbles upon an extraordinary multi-verse app, which unwittingly catapults her and her brother into a mesmerizing escapade. The narrative commences during their visit to their aunt and uncle in Vancouver, where they curiously explore her uncle’s hydrogen-fueled car experiment. A chance mishap transports them to an entirely different planet, replete with enchantment, adventure, and an array of fascinating creatures. However, amidst the magic, Anna and Zachary also encounter unexpected adversaries.

Author Aurora Winter has written an exhilarating and fast-paced literary work brimming with creativity that exemplifies the boundless potential to construct novel worlds, thrilling exploits, and innovative concepts in writing while maintaining a sense of intrigue. This book offers a splendid respite from reality and adeptly navigates its plot, and the elaborate world-building enhances the overall reading experience. The infusion of magical elements throughout the narrative remains compelling, particularly the inclusion of captivating characters like the all-powerful healing wizard, Snapdragon. Notably, the novel excels in crafting rich character relationships, exemplified by the skillfully depicted familial bond between Zachary and Ana as they embark on a heartfelt quest to find a cure for him. Magic, Mystery, and the Multiverse proved to be a gripping page-turner, which enthralled me from the outset. The original and well-developed characters effortlessly captivated my interest, making it challenging to choose a favorite.

A particularly intriguing aspect of the story centers around Ana’s enigmatic violet eyes, shrouded in mystery. This captivating subplot adds a layer of depth to the narrative, enhancing its allure. STONE COLD: A Cameron Stone Action Thriller

In Stone Cold, Thomas LeBrun introduces us to Cameron Stone, a seasoned martial artist who, despite not being an official affiliate, often aids the NYPD and counter-terrorism agencies. The narrative unfolds in the aftermath of a devastating confrontation with terrorists, wherein Stone’s colleague Raines is critically injured, and his pregnant girlfriend Sara tragically targeted with a poisoned bullet. This event triggers an enraged Stone to transform from a measured tactician into a revenge-driven warrior, and it’s up to his stepbrother and sparring partner Michael to restore the balance, brought about only through the discipline of martial arts, to counter the formidable enemy threatening all that Stone cherishes.

Evoking memories of the popular Jean-Claude Van Damme films of the late 20th century, Stone Cold follows a somewhat predictable pattern of a martial arts thriller reminiscent of characters such as Lee Child’s Jack Reacher. What distinguishes this novel, however, is the in-depth martial arts expertise that LeBrun clearly possesses and uses to animate the training and action sequences. It’s not often that an author can convey such intricate knowledge in a way that even readers unfamiliar with martial arts can appreciate. The passion that both LeBrun and his protagonist, Cameron Stone, have for martial arts is made strikingly apparent.

While the antagonists in the narrative are notably streamlined, the simplicity of their characterization provides a stark contrast to the depth and complexity of the protagonists – Stone, Raines, and Michael. This narrative choice leaves ample room for growth and exploration. The potential further development of these adversaries could increase anticipation for their intriguing confrontations with the heroes, enriching the overall reading experience.

The novel remains thrilling, with adrenaline-pumping action sequences and a riveting pace. Stone Cold is an engaging read that martial arts aficionados and thriller enthusiasts alike would find thoroughly rewarding.

What If

S.P. Grogan Author Interview

Crimson Scimitar explores the ‘what if’ questions surrounding Osama bin Laden and how things could have turned out differently. I find the setup of the novel entertaining. How did this idea start and develop as you wrote?

I have always been a fan of authors John Grisham and Scott Turow and their legal thrillers and wondered back in 2010, ‘what if’ Osama bin Laden was captured instead of killed? What would his trial under American jurisprudence look like?  In my early draft, the twist, I had him acquitted! Then, I heard on TV bin Laden had been killed.  My manuscript was shelved for 10 years, until I rewrote the concept adding new plot lines like: (1) terrorists who are coming into our Southern border and not being caught and (2) bin Laden in court would be a ‘show trial’ and I took that to the extreme.  I am now challenging lawyers I visit with: how would you have defended your client, bin Laden?  Interesting responses.

Did you find anything in your research of this story that surprised you?

The American public really knows very little about the intertwined politics of the Middle East or even the culture of Moslem family life. And the War on Terrorism since 2000 is not one act but hundreds of incidents that impact on us which we as normal citizens are unaware.  Instead of portraying all terrorists as ‘animals’ I sought to take one character to analyze their motivation and reveal how different events might mould and change their jihadist perspective.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

One theme that may be hard to see within the writing are my nuances on how American social media/television culture gives us a numbing view of reality, of the real world versus those who are dedicated to killing us.  I use the reality television industry to provide a backdrop in the hunt for bin Laden. But do I paint a positive perspective of our culture or a stilted view? Another theme that I have written into several of my books (like Crimson Scimitar and Lafayette) are the machinations of ‘ambition’ and how it drives and/or perverts a character.

What is one thing that people point out after reading your book that surprises you?

Their reaction on how they must approach the time to devour a lengthy epic novel (600 pages; which is longer than ‘Moby Dick’, but shorter than ‘Game of Thrones’). But like a thriller with multiple stories to tell, I build with chase & capture scenes, then escape & new chase action, and finally, I must tie all story lines into a crescendo of satisfying ends or teasing with new ‘what ifs?.  My beta readers and my editor enjoyed the reading. But I leave the satisfaction, or not, to the public, for it is they who must be entertained.  (P.S. I believe they will be.)   —spg

**the awakening epic novel of our times**A fast-paced epic of suspense, mysterious clue solving, political intrigue, terrorist plots of bombings and nuclear poisonings, romantic entanglements of strong women, a legal adventure of The Trial of the Century: this is the historical thriller intertwined with actual events of 2011 and no-holds barred critical commentary on Hollywood culture and social media.
The ‘What if?’ epic novelWhat if, in 2011, Osama bin Laden, the al Qaeda jihadist terrorist, was captured instead of killed? How would a trial in the U.S. judicial system look like?
And what if the ones who captured him were stars of a reality TV show trying to boost their ratings.
And what if when bin Laden was captured al Qaeda was planning an attack on the United States, worse than 9/11? Who do you think will come to the rescue?
Finally, would you cheer for a young al Qaeda jihadist who might bring peace to the Mideast?

You Are Worth Attention And Recognition

Anthony Braaten Author Interview

Let’s Help You Self-Help! shares with readers your story about overcoming various challenges and the twelve steps you found to help you achieve the success you dreamt of. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I felt the book was important because it was something I truly wanted to accomplish in my life. I have always wanted to leave a mark on the world that’s positive before I die. So, I told myself that if I truly cared for my well-being that I would write and complete a book. Though it’s self-published, I am proud of what I set out to do. I believe I nailed it because this book is tailored to my mind and because it’s a guided journal/workbook that if I find myself going through a mental break I can, always turn to the words that helped me through the worst of times. It’s helped me and it’s helped at least one other person, that’s what I felt was most important.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

I wanted the book to read and feel as though I was reading it to you in a spirit or tone that is highly encouraging to those in a fragile state of mind. I was adamant about the book being a quick guide to grand topics,, and nothing too complicated or confusing as to not give dangerous advice. I wanted a book anyone could use even if they’re not mentally ill.

What is a common misconception you feel people have about mental illness and being successful?

A common misconception is the blanket statement of “mentally ill.” There is a vast number diagnosis’ that fall under mental illness but would hardly be noticeable to others and sometimes even yourself. So, to say someone is mentally ill throws you in with psycopaths, not to mention each disabilty or disorder effects others differently. I have Bipolar 1 and I know others with Bipolar 2, we have some similarities but entirely different personalities and struggles. A mistake I made was deciding and believing something was “wrong” with me. Once I deemed something was wrong with me, you start the downhill spiral of believing you’re inadequate and never trying. My thoughts on success are perhaps different from the masses but maybe I’m wrong. In the book I say something like, “I believe success is being overjoyed or at peace after completing anything you set out to do.” Yes, the common consensus is that success is shown in fiscal form, but I believe true success lies within someone’s own goal and ability to reflect on what they enjoyed doing. Peace of mind, body, and heart is where success resides.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from your story?

That they are worth attention and recognition that their feelings or emotions are valid to some degree. I want those who read the book to understand they are truly suffering and should never be ashamed longer than half a second. The shame must go away before you can spread your wings. Never be ashamed of something completely out of your control, change what you can when you can and keep trying until you can reflect and be at peace.
