I was engaged.

The Witches of Hollow Cove audiobooks are best listened to in the order of their release. While each book contains a mystery or dilemma, Tessa’s magic and relationships with her family & local sheriff are best enjoyed from the beginning. Brewing Crazy ties in closely with events in Cosmic Jinx.

Now that Tessa has her mojo back, she is enjoying life in Hollow Cove. Her living arrangements have changed, but she keeps waiting for Marcus to propose. Only he doesn’t and that has her worried. She’ll have to set that aside because townsfolk are going insane before dropping dead from a curse that has even the Davenport witches stumped.

Filled with danger, snark and spells Brewing Crazy was indeed crazy. Tessa and her aunts will need to discover who is casting dark magic before the town is lost. As always, I had fun with Tessa and Marcus. I love their back-and-forth banter. Tessa’s snarky attitude gets her in trouble with more than just the local mayor. In fact, she may be responsible for the anger behind these curses.

Before the case is wrapped up and the margaritas can be consumed, Tessa will take flight, discover what Marcus is up to, and capture the mastermind behind these attacks.

The Hollow Cove series is perfect for fans of fun, light paranormal, cozy mysteries. I always end up laughing and removing my earbuds with a smile.

Devon Sorvari narrates and does a wonderful job with Tessa. Her voices for Tessa’s over the top aunts, mayor and male voices are perfectly done and capture the feel of the series. I highly recommend listening

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. takes readers on a thrilling murder mystery in Do Nothing, Book 1 of The Griffin Knight series. We follow the lead detective Griffin Knight as he tries to solve a series of murders in New York City. Beginning with the death of District Attorney Natalie, the killer leaves behind cryptic clues. Then, more murders start to happen, leading Griffin to believe a serial killer is on the loose. Griffin is in a race against time to find the killer and stop him from killing his next victim.

The suspense and mystery build from the start of the chapter making this one book that is hard to put down. The story moves quickly, making this a short read, but the tension steadily builds as the story progresses. Griffin’s character is well-developed and believable. I liked his calm, cool, and collected demeanor and enjoyed getting a closer look at his thinking. I also enjoyed that the reader gets a first-person perspective of the murders, but we do not know who the murderer is. Hernandez cleverly keeps the reader guessing as we are taken on an investigation alongside Griffin. I felt like I was watching a True Crime documentary with the details of evidence collected, down to the murder scene, and interviewing suspects.

Do Nothing is a gripping murder mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. The author’s writing is skillful and engaging, and the plot is cleverly crafted. If you’re a fan of crime fiction and suspenseful thrillers, this book is a must-read. Be prepared to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster filled with twists and turns.

Simple Tricks and Nonsense is a remarkable debut science fiction novel from J. Andrew Corbett that seamlessly blends fantasy with science fiction. The book introduces us to Gaius Claudius I, the founder of the Infinite Empire and the current Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial armed forces. Corbett expertly crafts Claudius’ character as a wise and virtuous emperor who happily relinquishes his position at the end of his term. Alongside his loyal bodyguard, Lucia, Claudius spends his time defending the empire he created. However, the story takes a darker turn with the arrival of Claudius’ successor, Emperor Salvator DeFauth. DeFauth has no interest in relinquishing his position, and his rigged elections and use of violent thugs like the Tal-Dek indicate his ambition to become a dictator for life. If Claudius wants to protect his empire, he must forge new alliances and, perhaps, even go to war.

Corbett masterfully weaves political intrigue with science fiction to create a story with real stakes. The various political factions, such as the Coalition and the Legion, are fleshed out, and their motives are expertly explained. Corbett’s characters are relatable and likable, each with their own understandable motives and desires. Notably, Corbett uses his characters to convey his views on inclusivity, referring to them as “beings” rather than pigeonholing them by gender and referring to them by their species rather than their race. Although the book features plenty of political maneuvering, there is no shortage of action, with the Tal-Dek providing a particularly brutal and cruel enemy for our heroes. The book’s pacing is excellent, with Corbett deftly balancing quieter character moments with exciting blockbuster scenes. Corbett could have spent more time developing the rules of his sci-fi world beyond the political environment. However, this does not detract from the overall quality of the book and leaves room for exploration in future books in the series.

Simple Tricks and Nonsense is a fantastic science fiction novel that will satisfy fans of political intrigue and thrilling action. J. Andrew Corbett’s writing style and storytelling are engaging, making the reader eager to discover what happens next in the series.

The tragedy that Danny endures is shocking and heartrending, but it is also the turning point in which the reader sees Danny’s character evolve. Themes of friendship, loyalty, self-discovery, and embracing one’s true self are explored throughout the story.
