Healing Broken Hearts

Susan G. Mathis Author Interview

Rachel’s Reunion follows a woman working in her dream job who has her old love return and tries to rekindle things after breaking her heart. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

Rachel and Mitch worked in the Thousand Islands for several years. For two years, she served the Mr. and Mrs. Charles Emery in Calumet Castle on Calumet Island (you can read more about that in my novel, Peyton’s Promise, about her best friend). She was such a great character that I to continue her story, so I had her serve the most elite patrons at the famed New Frontenac Hotel on Round Island.

What is one pivotal moment in the story that you think best defines Rachel?

When Mitch gets hurt, Rachel finds forgiveness and, as a result, love.

There is so much to be said about love in this book. What do you hope your readers take away from your story?

All eleven of my Thousand Islands’ stories have hope as the central theme. Hope for a better future. Hope for love. Hope for healing. Rachel’s Reunion also focuses on healing broken hearts, and forgiving those who hurt you.

I hope the series continues in other books. If so, where will the story take readers?
