The Unstoppable Artist

The Unstoppable Artist by Barbara L. McCulloch is a detailed guide that will help readers find purpose, meaning and creativity in their art. The author discusses how many artists get stuck creating “art” for money. Being an experienced successful artist, she explains how to make art speak to your soul while still making money. She puts her readers through a series of exercises that will help them discover their own signature style using an artist medium they are most comfortable working with. By creating a unique style, it will speak to an audience that is willing to buy their pieces and add meaning to their life.

The author does a great job of assigning projects that give artists a way to free themselves of the struggles of making art and just focus on the joy of creating pieces that speak to one’s soul. She does this through the use of projects which teach practical techniques on how to work with various mediums as well as discusses the proper tools to have to create the best art one can, therefore creating art that appeals to an audience.

This is a fantastic resource for artists. I would’ve liked a little more elaboration on how to sell my art as what was given was useful and I thought a bit more information would help me understand better. I enjoyed the various projects that it offered because I felt like every bit of it was designed to inspire creativity. I certainly walked away from this book feeling like I was a better artist.

The author’s passion for art shines throughout the book, which I expected, but I didn’t expect to also feel how passionate the author was about educating others, which was key to me fully embracing the lessons. The Unstoppable Artist is a critical resource for budding artists, or anyone looking to develop their skills and take them to the next level.

Marathon

Marathon by John Herbert is a story of overcoming the many challenges that life puts you through. Richard Marlborough, The Kid, shows immense talent from a very young age. He runs like nobody else and is focused on winning every competition that he can, proving to everyone all that he’s capable of achieving. The Kid’s talent is the sort of talent that rarely appears, once in every generation, with lots of promise for the future. However, no story is perfect, and he’ll see himself going through darker times and emotions. As an answer to this, he holds onto his anger and uses it for motivation. The only question is, where will this man’s journey lead him to?

The engaging book presents a complete arc of the life of The Kid, showcasing in detail his competitive career and his lifestyle. We get to explore his preparation for each competition, his relationships, and his plans for the future. With each new step, though, complications appear that eventually turn into important lessons that push him closer to finding his purpose. Although the lessons taught can be applied to everyone’s life, they aren’t geared exclusively towards the life of a successful athlete, which makes this book easy to relate to and leaves the reader with a set of inspirational stories that can be used as motivation.

The entire journey of The Kid’s career is documented in detail in this fascinating book, and in every chapter, one can find a new lesson that is taught and applied. The story’s pacing is slower, so it takes some time to get into it. Some emotional turns shape the course of the story, bringing something new and different that has to be dealt with and understood. The successes achieved are great, and inspiration can be found inside every chapter. As a parallel, life is presented as a marathon that has to be run: the trajectory might be difficult, but the end should be worth it.

Marathon by John Herbert is a stirring story presented about the life of a successful, talented athlete, with its ups and downs. It’s realistic in the sense that it collects the varied dimensions of one’s life, and it adds love, hope, determination, and motivation as a necessity to reach the finish line.

Reverse Chronic Kidney Disease

Reverse Chronic Kidney Disease: How To Improve Kidney Function And Avoid Dialysis by Yaw A Boateng, MD, Ph.D., is a self-help book for anyone with chronic kidney disease who wants to improve their kidney function. This book also serves as an excellent manual for healthy people who wish to learn more about kidney health and how they can utilize the natural health remedies around them to maintain kidney health while helping with the prevention of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Many medical texts, articles, and publications emphasize the need for a healthy lifestyle to keep chronic, debilitating conditions and diseases like CKD at bay. However, the ambiguity in this medical advice is that there are rarely instructions on specific habits that must be dropped or adopted to promote healthy living. Furthermore, where such instructions exist, there is not enough information highlighting how these habits work to benefit general body health.

This 12-chapter book on CKD and how to reverse it by Yaw. A. Boateng introduces new health remedies to help reverse chronic kidney disease, a phenomenon considered impossible by many health practitioners. In addition, these remedies are considered new because they are widely under-utilized by medical practitioners. However, Boateng, with years of experience managing CKD patients, demonstrated that he had applied the techniques highlighted in this book to improve the conditions of his patients.

From the commonly known need to drink specific amounts of water daily to the less known use of baking soda, Omega-3 fatty acids, and even Vitamin D, these remedies proposed by Boateng in this book have scientific and medical research findings proving their effectiveness in reducing CKD and their potential to reverse chronic kidney disease without dialysis. Another unique quality of this book is how there are copious details on how the physiology of the kidney works. While the readers may have benefited more from a brief illustration of the renal anatomy and/or structure, it does not detract from understanding how the kidney works to maintain a healthy body.

Reverse Chronic Kidney Disease: How To Improve Kidney Function And Avoid Dialysis is eye-opening and comprehendible to the average reader as the medical terminologies contained therein are explained simply. Anyone can find great use of this informative book, whether you have CKD, know someone who does, or just want to learn how to prevent kidney failure in the first place.

My Magical Bearded Friend

My Magical Bearded Friend by Chris Husband is a uniquely fascinating tale of a highly illustrious bearded man that simply exudes magic. Readers are taken on a whimsical adventure showing how and what makes this gentleman so grand and appealing. Young readers will be left with the question, what is the purpose of this man?

I adored the illustrations and the poetic prose. This was a wonderful combination that is sure to capture the attention and the imagination of children. Kids will be in wonder at the magical bearded friend. I was immensely intrigued by this bearded character but want more details as to who he is, what he does, and where he is going. But that’s just me as a parent reading this to my child. I think this comes from the character being so fascinating that I want to know more.

With magnificent artwork, easy-to-read words, and a flowing rhyme, children will be delighted to read this enchanting story, or to be read this story at bedtime. My Magical Bearded Friend is a uniquely wondrous picture book.

Patients in Peril

In Patients in Peril: The Demise of Primary Care in America, Gregg Coodley examines the state of healthcare in the United States, drawing comparisons, pointing out the mishaps in the medical field, and expounding on how things came to be. Not too long ago, most Americans could count on having a personal or primary care physician. The availability of physicians made it easy for every American to access affordable healthcare, but not anymore. Gregg Coodley is comprehensive in his writing, starting from the root of the problem, highlighting the causes of the decline, and offering practical solutions.

The author introduces the reader to his work by giving them an idea of how it started. Then, he writes about the background of primary care in America, sharing historical details not known by many. I applaud him for how he chronicled the historical events and the progress made during the period American colonies gained independence. It is interesting to learn that doctors have been viewed in a different light through various periods in history. For example, I was awed to learn of doctors during the Jacksonian period in the 1830-the 1840s and how they were generally regarded in the 1800s. Gregg Coodley is great at penning historical tales, picking the most fascinating facts to write on.

This informative book has 21 chapters, all manageable in length. The author is clear, uses recognizable terms, and engages the reader in his writing. Although the content of this book is about healthcare and medicine, the writing is engaging, using descriptions and case studies to get his points across. Every chapter is distinct, and the topics are diverse. I also like the fact that the author added images of ancient paintings and modern pictures in between the chapters, as it made the book more appealing to read.

In Patients in Peril: The Demise of Primary Care in America, you will learn about the dangers of ignoring primary healthcare, the benefits of primary healthcare, insurance, the rise of hospitalists, vaccines, and medical training, among other issues. The use of data and statistics by Gregg Coodley was an excellent concept for readers that appreciate factual information. The highlight for me was the appendix, where the author listed proposed reforms. I recommend this illuminating book to medical professionals and readers who are conscious about their health and the state of healthcare in America.
