The eighth book of this dark urban fantasy series follows necromancer Eric Carter through a world of vengeful gods and goddesses, mysterious murders, and restless ghosts.

If there’s one thing Eric Carter can count on, it’s his past coming back to bite him in the ass.

Gabriela Cortez, La Bruja, has had her soul trapped . . . somewhere, and the only one who knows how to get it back is the Oracle of Las Vegas, a powerful artifact that Carter helped create almost thirty years before. It doesn’t just predict the future-it makes things happen, influencing events to reach the goal it wants.

Only somebody’s gone and stolen it, attempting to turn it into an artifact that doesn’t just change the future, but also the past.

Eric needs to find it and steal it back before this comes to pass. If he doesn’t, Gabriela’s soul is lost. And quite possibly the future as well.

Gabriela Cortez, La Bruja’s soul, is trapped, and she wants it back. To do that, she needs Eric’s help to find the Oracle of Las Vegas. Apparently, years ago, Eric helped create the artifact. It not only tells the future but can help shape it. The tale that unfolds was twisty and addictive.

They quickly learn someone is attempting to use it to change the past. Eric will have to reach out to old contacts, some of whom are scary as heck. But he’ll need all the help he can get to stop whoever has it and restore Gabriela’s soul.

This was entertaining, from beginning to end with plenty of death scenes and action to spare. I love the humor and dark noir vibe in this urban fantasy series. Blackmoore brings it all to the table, from gods to magic. All the characters are colorful, from villains to Eric’s allies. I loved the twists and time warps as we traveled around Vegas.

Blackmoore sets up for the next audiobook perfectly, and I cannot wait to grab my earbuds and listen. Rudy Sanda narrates the series and has done an excellent job of giving voice to Eric and the other characters, from gods to villains.

Fireline

In Fireline, Anthony DeCapite delves into the gritty world of prison life and vengeance, weaving a narrative that grips the reader from the start. The story revolves around Mason and Caleb Jones, brothers and fellow inmates at LAC, who are entangled in a perilous conflict with Graham, a fellow inmate controlling the prison’s contraband operations. This clash, facilitated by a corrupt guard, tragically ends in Caleb’s death and Mason’s hospitalization. Motivated by the loss of his brother, Mason embarks on a relentless quest for revenge. His already challenging mission is further complicated when he learns that his target, Graham, has been transferred hundreds of miles away and assigned to a prestigious inmate firefighting crew. Unfazed, Mason devises an intricate plan to reach Graham, involving a dangerous alliance with a prison gang, a disguise, and a scheme centered around fire.

DeCapite’s Fireline is an exploration of revenge and the dark realities of the prison system, characterized by violence, corruption, and intricate plots. The novel thrusts readers into the action from the outset, delivering on its promise of fast-paced action and unexpected twists. The author’s skillful use of clear and vivid descriptions offers an immersive experience, effectively grounding the reader in the story’s setting. The author’s writing is sharp, and the plot progresses at an ideal pace, which ensures the readers are engaged without feeling like they’re rushing through the narrative.

One thing I particularly enjoyed in this book is the detailed portrayal of wildfires which offers insights into firefighting within the context of a penal institution. Readers may find themselves inadvertently learning about the nuances of battling blazes. DeCapite excels in character development as well, particularly in how he presents the key figures in the story. While initially, they might appear as stereotypical criminals, the narrative gradually reveals their complexity.

Fireline is a compelling read that offers a deep dive into themes of vengeance, the harshness of prison life, and the human capacity for resilience and strategy under extreme circumstances. This is a gritty and riveting thriller that I highly recommend.

The Adventures of Tommy and Tina Dreaming of Being a Termite and Finding a Home in the Forest

Tommy and Tina are childhood friends who enjoy exploring nature and looking for animals and creatures that live in the forest and around the lakes where they live. Tommy and Tina packed a picnic lunch and decided to take a walk in the forest near their house. There was an old rotten log near the stream and thousands of termites were flying out of the log. Some of the termites had long wings, some were a milky white and some had pinchers in front of their heads. Tommy and Tina spread their blanket under the big oak tree and watched the termites fly into the forest while they were enjoying their lunch. Tommy and Tina were wondering where the termites were flying too, maybe they thought the termites were looking for a new home in the forest.

Tommy and Tina meet and talk to many animals in the forest while they searched for a new home for themselves.

P.J. Davis’ Nemesis and The Vault of Lost Time transports young readers into an enchanting realm of fantasy and adventure. Central to the story is Max, a daydreamer with an insatiable curiosity, who finds himself in the heart of a thrilling escapade after a chance encounter with a cryptic professor in his uncle’s store. The narrative escalates as Max, alongside his loyal friends Derek and Samantha, learns of a sinister plot involving the theft of time from the universe, sparking an exciting quest for justice and for personal revelations, particularly about his scientist father.

Aimed primarily at middle-grade audiences, this thrilling fantasy novel distinguishes itself through Davis’ accessible writing style. He utilizes a gentle tone, straightforward vocabulary, and a flowing narrative approach that makes the complex themes approachable for younger readers. The book’s imaginative prowess is further enhanced by its illustrations, which serve as a delightful guide through the story’s intricate settings and help bring the characters to life.

The plot of Nemesis and The Vault of Lost Time is a tapestry of surprises characterized by its unforeseen twists and turns. It’s this element of suspense that grips the readers, while the vivid descriptions create immersive visual experiences. Beyond its adventurous core, this mystery novel delves into themes of friendship and the nuanced dynamics of father-son relationships, offering a multi-layered reading experience.

I think Max’s character will resonate with young readers because he reflects their own dreams and thirst for adventure. His journey is more than an adventure, though; I felt like it was an exploration of new worlds and perspectives, offering a welcome escape from everyday life.

WHISPERS IN THE VINEYARD: A NOVEL

Whispers in the Vineyard by Justin K. Kojok elegantly weaves a tale set in the idyllic village of Domeabra, a place marked by an enduring rivalry between two vineyard families. This novel masterfully portrays the intricate and heartfelt winemaking process, a craft deeply embedded in centuries of tradition. At the heart of the story is Loom, the poised heir to the Daanua vineyard. Upon her return to Domeabra, Loom embarks on a journey to discover her heritage and the time-honored traditions of viticulture. The plot thickens when she encounters Feika, the charming progeny of the rival vineyard, igniting a romance that blossoms organically, reminiscent of the grapevines surrounding them.

Kojok’s prose is richly descriptive, effectively transporting the reader to the vibrant festivities and aromatic world of winemaking. His skillful use of language, as seen in phrases like, “And seventeen minutes in Domeabra wasn’t just a period; it was an event, an atmospheric spectacle, an interval romance between the land and the heavens,” creates a vivid, almost mystical portrayal of Domeabra. This enchanting setting forms the perfect backdrop for the novel’s central romance. The relationship between Feika and Loom is crafted with a delicate touch, their initial tentative interactions gradually evolving into a deep connection. Their story is not just a personal triumph but symbolizes a harmonious blending of two historically opposed families. The couple’s mature approach to past conflicts and their shared ambition to create a united wine brand illustrates a progressive outlook, bringing prosperity and unity to Domeabra.

Kojok’s narrative is more than a love story; it’s an ode to preserving traditions and lore. Whispers in the Vineyard resonates with themes of heritage, unity, and the enduring power of love, making it a compelling read for those who appreciate fiction imbued with cultural richness and romantic intrigue.

Life is About Making Choices

Thomas McRae Author Interview

Lyrical Revelations is a poetic journey through love, faith, and life’s complexities, offering readers a clear, resonant reflection on the transformative power of human experiences. What inspired you to explore such a diverse range of themes?

What inspired me to write so many different themes is simple the world is falling apart and a little hope, love and inspiration with a mixture of truth could very well save our already lost and condemn souls.

How do you approach writing about sensitive topics like faith and spirituality in a way that resonates with a wide range of audience?

By telling the truth and not worrying about what others may think or say because at the end of the day Jesus died for our sins so lets not let his death be in vain.

In your exploration of loves complexities what message or insight do you hope readers take away from those poems?

The importance of loving yourself and knowing how to love others love is a very powerful and amazing reaction that not only touches our hearts but can inspire, revive and rejuvenate our souls.

When is the next book you are working on, and when will it be ready?

Most likely, by the end of this year, I’ll be working on my next book or early next year. It will be another poetry book title that hasn’t been decided, but it will be with my old publishing company, Eber and Wein Publishing. I’m very excited and looking forward to it.

Which is more important to you loyalty or respect and why?

That’s a complicated question because how can I respect you if I don’t trust you. And how can I be loyal if you give me no reason to trust your intentions. It all boils down to the people involved and what exactly are their morals and personal beliefs in these two particular subjects.

Do you write for a living or have a regular steady job?

My writing is a second / hustle but I have a steady 21-year-old job in the New York City Housing Authority Emergency Service Department currently in Brooklyn New York where I also reside.

If you have a regular job does that influence your writing if so how?

Life in general influences my writing because everything and anything is a story to tell.

Why are you not more of a traditional poet?

Most of my poetry is inspired by my life experiences and the people I know, but music has a big influence in it as well in regards of getting me into a rhythm. That’s why I can’t see myself writing tradition especially since I feel like I’m extraordinary.

Do you have a solid support system when it comes to writing?

Between God my mother and father & close personal friends real close personal friends I have more than enough support and I’m grateful for everything I have and going to accomplish.

Do you have any regrets when it comes to your life?

Overall I try not to have regrets I’ve made some choices I probably shouldn’t have, but then I think back and say who’s to say if I went the other route my life would have been better. The fact is my life isn’t bad and I still have time to make it much better than what it is today. I just have to stay focused, stay determined and stay ready for my blessings and ignore the haters that are surrounding me on a regular basis.

If you could change anything in your life what would it be?

If anything I will try to change all the times I gave up too quickly because I didn’t feel like I had the support I needed. Life is about making choices preferably choices you can live with and not what make other people happy. Everyone wants to make someone proud but you can’t go through life simply caring what others think because then you go through life being resentful and bitter. Because you feel like you lost valuable time trying to get there approval and attempting to take your next step to redemption.

Which is the most important to you love, intimacy, or sex and why?

We as living creatures need all three to survive love is a component that ignites our inner soul, intimacy is the passion we yearn in order to grow and sex is the physical aspect that stimulates our body, mind and soul.

How would you describe your personality soft, tough or in between and why?

By nature I’m very nice and caring but if you take advantage of my kindness I can be a piece of work as well. I’d rather be the nice guy then the prick I keep dormant inside. But unfortunately some people take kindness for weakness and this is one of the reasons why I had to remove myself from a past work experience plus several personal life experiences. People don’t value friendship and it’s sad because most of us don’t have solid friends at least not like the friend I try to be.

Are you married, single or looking for anyone and why?

I’ve been single for a while for numerous reasons but mainly because I refuse to settle. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m flexible but certain things I’m not willing to bend, of course I would like to find the right woman someone I can cherish, respect, honor and love. Because everyone wants someone to love and cherish, that’s one reason why I don’t believe in cheating, and I refuse to be with anyone who thinks that behavior is acceptable. I love hard and I want my partner, my future wife, my soulmate to go if not as hard as me maybe a tad bit harder.

Would you ever consider writing for someone else in other words being a ghost writer?

To be honest I’ve been ghost writing for people for years. In particular when it comes to my poetry I mean I’ve been writing for my cousins, Aunts, Uncles, coworkers and friends you name it I’ve written for most or all of them at some point. Never thought much of it but if the opportunity presented itself I’ll be open to the idea because I still have some short fiction novel ideas I would love to pitch.

How did lyrical Revelations come about?

Lyrical Revelations was one of many titles my associate Jessica Starks and I was considering together. But in the end I decided to leap on faith and give Jessica my blessing to take the initiative and make the final call and as a result this is how Lyrical Revelations came to light.

Is there anybody you like to acknowledge, thank or shout out in this interview?

First and foremost, I want to thank God for keeping me humble, focused, kind, and overall a genuinely good human being. I want to acknowledge my parents Marshall Edward McRae Senior my father and Sylvia Annette McRae my mother for teaching me values and guiding me to a better perspective of life. Thank you so much for being there but more importantly wanting to be there.

A special shout-out to the following people Khalil Abdus Sabuur, Nekema Moore, Vinson McCrae Jr, Joseph and Tina kowaleski, Patricia May, Beverly Weathers, Rastislav Kovalcik, Eileen Moynihan, Danna Smith, Thomas Anderson, Joseph Awujoola, Joleene Naylor, Tyra Mosby, Damon Adams and Steve Coughlan I want to thank you all for being who you are good people with flaws but full of Hope and inspiration to us all. I’m honored and grateful for the time we have together plus many more to come.
