ReInception

In Sarena Straus’s novel ReInception, an amazing medical procedure (the titular “reinception”) modifies a client’s brain to modify their behavior and unwanted desires, whether that be a change in personality, the removal of a bad habit or anything else the client may want. After a terror attack at a protest against the lower classes’ treatment, protagonist Leandrea finds herself sucked into an underground movement against both the procedure and those pushing it and is forced to confront the full implications of both the modifications and the purposes of the people behind it.

ReInception’s greatest strength comes from the thought Straus clearly put into her premise. We see in dialogue, action, and elements of the setting how making a procedure like reinception accepted and even commonplace would change society and social attitudes and the social and philosophical divisions likely to arise from it. Some characters are wholly invested in it and whose lives have been drastically improved, some even going so far as to wish it to become mandatory. In contrast, others question the wisdom and morality of essentially eliminating part of a person’s free will. Though the narrative favors the “free will” side of things, this isn’t just a morality play; every character is well fleshed-out and believably acting how they deem best.

The narrative unfolds at a good pace; Straus successfully establishes a potentially difficult premise and setting in the first few chapters without resorting to infodumps, and quickly introduces our protagonist and gets the story moving. The dialogue is also natural and believable throughout, even when the discussions get philosophical. The conspiracy central to the main plot is unveiled gradually throughout the novel; Straus shares enough to hold the reader’s interest, but one always has the sense that there’s more to this world than what’s on the surface.

ReInception is an excellent science fiction novel with a focus on genetic engineering. The adventure readers go on as they follow the characters in the battle for humanity’s free will is engaging and thrilling. With the moral question of what is right or wrong and what is the benefit for society as a whole at the forefront of this novel, it will be hard to put down once you start.

Killer Clones

CIA Tech Manager Getty Pokem is a separated father of four kids, and while he doesn’t mind his job, he wishes he could spend more time with his family. Getty’s life is suddenly turned upside down, however, when one of his daughters dies in a mass shooting during a protest at a mall. No longer allowed to visit his kids, and while dealing with his grief, Getty is thrust into a world of death and danger as he tries to live in a world where death seems inevitable.

Killer Clones by WLVE is a futuristic and almost satirical novel that deals with politics, murder, pandemics, and everything in between that hits a little too close to home. Many prior and even current political figures are scattered throughout this book—some mentioned by name, and others not. Some of these figures act just as the reader may expect, while others’ stories play out with a twist.

The political side of this book is apparent from chapter one, and if you disagree with Getty’s point of view, you might have a difficult time reading this book. It is a graphic story that wastes no words, describing every death and value in great detail. It forces you to look at what’s happening in America, really forces you to look, and if you’re queasy about these sorts of things or have had traumatic experiences, then this book may not be for you. The characters that we get to meet along the way are diverse and full of personalities, but there are times when I wonder if they knew what they were thinking.

Killer Clones is a thought-provoking political and science fiction work that stems from our current reality. With a unique and honest look at topics on people’s minds and a warning about mass complacency, this story will stay on readers’ minds long after the book is finished. This novel is for you if you love a good conspiracy theory and science fiction action story.

Liam & Little Tail

When a small little animal wanders into Liam’s part of the woods, he is concerned for the little guy’s safety in the cold. Quickly he went to find his friend Dawson, and together they investigated what the small animal was, only to discover it was a squire with a tiny tail! They knew right away they needed to do something to help this little guy out; first thing, though, he needed a name. So with his new name, Little Tail, a plan was made to get him someplace safe where he could be warm and have plenty to eat.

Liam & Little Tail: Adventures of Liam the Squirrel & Friends by Brenda Huddleston is a heartwarming children’s book about friendship and helping others. From the opening page, children are drawn into the winter wonderland of the woodland creatures and can feel the excitement and awe of a snow-filled forest. Joe Huffman’s illustrations are colorful and animated, making children feel like they are part of the forest and racing along with all the animals.

Children learn the value of friendship and problem-solving in this well-written picture book. Because Little Tail’s tail was so small, he could not jump and climb like other squirrels. They will see how the animals of the forest come together to help out new friends and ensure he is safe and cared for. It shows the importance of a community and how everyone can accomplish any task when working together. Little Tail was secure from the cold thanks to the beautiful community of animals in the forest.

Liam & Little Tail: Adventures of Liam the Squirrel & Friends is a touching children’s book that will provide children with a message of compassion and show them the value of helping out strangers in need. This picture book is a wonderful addition to classrooms and libraries both in school and at home.

Lilah Loves Life

It’s a bright and beautiful day and Lilah is excited for all the fun things that she can do today. Right after breakfast she heads out to play. She enjoys a variety of fun activities like playing hopscotch, making bubbles, and flying a kite. Her entire day, from morning to bedtime, is filled with fun activities.

I loved Lilah’s energy and enthusiasm for life. This charming children’s book will show children how, with a little imagination, they can have a lot of fun all day long. The book also shows Lilah having fun all by herself, which I think will be great for parents that have only one child. It’s great to play with others, but you don’t need to in order to have fun, as Lilah will show you. I enjoyed the large amount of activities that Lilah did in this book as well. This will give kids a lot of activities they can do on their own if they can’t think of any.

Every page has wonderful graphic art with bright colors and shading that really gives the images great depth. I loved seeing Lilah in different situations because the artwork makes everything look so cute. Children will love pointing out all the adorable little animals that make an appearance throughout the book.

Lilah Loves Life will show children how to make the most of their day and will inspire them to go outside and play. This excellent rhyming book is perfect for early readers as it contains easy-to-read words. The vibrant illustrations will also help parents keep their young kids focused as they read this story to them at bedtime. This is a wonderfully imaginative picture book that children will surely enjoy.

There’s a Nanny in MY House!

On a regular Monday morning, someone rings the doorbell. Who can it be? It’s Millie and Freddie’s new nanny. Millie feels a little unsettled, but when her parents leave for work Millie and Freddie spend the day with Nanny Riah. Will Millie and Nanny Riah get along? Find out in There’s a Nanny in MY House!

Author Maria Culley has created a wonderfully educational children’s book that will help children come to terms with having a nanny. It can be difficult for kids to have a stranger in their house. This book shows children all the wonderful things that a nanny can do for them and with them. It showcases all the fun children can have with a nanny to help soothe their unease.

This picture book contains wonderful sketch art on every page. I loved how Freddie was giggling and happy throughout. Millie’s anxiety can be clearly seen on her face, and I enjoyed seeing her emotion slowly change so that we can see that she’s having a good time by the end of the book.

There’s a Nanny in MY House! is a fantastic resource for parents that want to prepare their children for having a nanny in their house. The book also includes helpful transition tips at the back of the book for parents. Children will love the illustrations and be able to relate to Millie in this educational picture book.
