Cooee Baby

Cooee Baby by Charles Moberly is a compelling narrative that plunges you into the life of Awhina Fernandez, a brilliant yet socially awkward astrophysics student navigating the complexities of academia, family dynamics, and personal relationships. The book masterfully intertwines her sharp intellect with her struggles in forming connections, presenting a protagonist who is both admirable and relatable in her vulnerabilities.

From the outset, Awhina’s distinctive voice grabs hold of you, pulling you into a world where academic excellence meets the chaos of personal growth. One of the most striking aspects of Moberly’s writing is his ability to create a simultaneously brilliant and flawed character. Awhina’s journey through the halls of Cambridge is laced with moments of intellectual triumph, but these are often overshadowed by her struggles with authority figures, particularly her contentious relationship with Professor Coulter. Moberly doesn’t shy away from portraying Awhina’s sharp tongue and defiant nature, which, while sometimes abrasive, adds depth to her character. This raw and unapologetic portrayal is both refreshing and a little unsettling, making her a character you root for even when she’s at her most difficult. The book also delves deeply into the tension between Awhina’s scientific mind and her emotional world. Her relationships with her parents, especially her mother, are fraught with misunderstandings and unmet expectations. Moberly paints a vivid picture of Awhina’s internal battles—her need for approval, her desire for independence, and her struggle with her own identity. The narrative touches on her feelings of inadequacy and the pressure of her own brilliance, which is particularly evident in her interactions with her peers and in her pursuit of a PhD. These moments of introspection are where Moberly’s writing shines, offering readers a glimpse into the mind of someone who is both extraordinarily gifted and painfully self-aware. Moberly injects humor into the story, often through Awhina’s sardonic observations and her interactions with others. The scenes where she outwits her professors or navigates the awkwardness of social encounters are both amusing and telling of her character’s complexity. Yet, this humor is balanced with the book’s exploration of serious themes, such as the dangers of scientific hubris and the ethical implications of advancements in technology, which Awhina frequently debates throughout the narrative.

Cooee Baby is a fascinating exploration of the life of a young woman caught between the demands of her intellect and the challenges of her emotions. Moberly has crafted a thought-provoking and entertaining narrative with a protagonist who is as endearing as she is exasperating. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in character-driven stories that explore the intersection of brilliance and vulnerability. It would particularly appeal to readers who enjoy academic settings, complex character studies, and narratives that challenge the status quo.

Spencer the Babbit: The Backyard

Spencer the Babbit by Dr. Kraver is a delightful children’s story about a young rabbit named Spencer, who initially finds the idea of playing outside boring but eventually discovers the wonders and adventures that await him in the backyard. Encouraged by his mother, Spencer sets out to explore the yard and quickly realizes that fun is all around him if he just looks for it. From chasing butterflies and playing with bees to discovering ants on a mission and swinging high on the swing set, Spencer learns that the backyard is full of excitement and joy.

I absolutely adored how the book takes us through Spencer’s journey from reluctance to excitement. The writing is simple yet evocative, effortlessly capturing the curiosity and energy of a child discovering the world around them. The repetition of Spencer thinking really hard before venturing outside cleverly mirrors the way children often resist new experiences, only to embrace them wholeheartedly once they dive in.

The rhyming couplets make the story a joy to read aloud, and the rhythm keeps young listeners engaged. The playful language, especially in the scenes where Spencer interacts with the bees and ants, brings the backyard to life. I found myself smiling at the charming way the story introduces children to the concept of imaginative play, showing that adventure doesn’t always have to be far away, it can be right in your own backyard.

One of my favorite parts was when Spencer finally runs outside, filled with joy and ready for adventure. The writing here is particularly vivid, capturing the excitement of a child lost in play. I also appreciated how the story seamlessly transitions from high-energy fun to the calm of the evening, with Spencer winding down and preparing for bed. This balance makes the book not just a fun read but also a great bedtime story.

The artwork is visually appealing and enhances the whimsical and playful tone of the narrative. However, there is a noticeable shift in style, transitioning from CGI artwork to more traditional cartoon drawings. While both styles are of high quality and engaging on their own, the inconsistency can be a bit jarring, disrupting the overall flow of the visual experience. Despite this, the artwork effectively captures the essence of Spencer’s adventures and adds charm to the storytelling.

Spencer the Babbit is a wonderful picture book for young children who may need a little nudge to discover the joys of outdoor play. It’s perfect for parents to read aloud, thanks to its lively rhymes and engaging story. If you’re looking for a book that encourages imagination and a love for nature while also providing a soothing bedtime routine, Spencer the Babbit is a fantastic choice.

Gemotroplis: The Stolen Heart

Gemotropolis by Jack Hailgo is a captivating fantasy novel that follows the journey of two young ruby miners, Rusty and Lustre, as they seek to escape their harsh lives in the mines. Their discovery of a precious gem sparks hope for a better future, leading them on an adventurous quest to sell it and break free from the bleak existence they’ve known. In a world where currency reigns supreme and rubies are highly coveted, their journey is filled with challenges and excitement.

Hailgo, a young but remarkably talented author, has crafted a richly detailed and imaginative world in Gemotropolis. The novel stands out for its originality and depth, particularly in the way it weaves together the elements of fantasy, history, and culture. I was especially impressed by the creativity behind the world-building and the intricate political dynamics that shape the narrative. One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is how Hailgo defines nations not just by geography but by the characteristics of their specific stones, using these qualities to reflect the diversity and culture of each nation. This approach adds a unique layer to the story, making it a standout example of the fantasy genre. The novel’s world, characters, and themes are deeply engaging, drawing readers into its rich lore. I found myself fully immersed in the story, captivated by the creativity and quality of the writing. The fact that Hailgo has achieved this level of storytelling at such a young age is truly inspiring. His work serves as a testament to the potential of young and aspiring writers, encouraging them to persevere in their craft despite the challenges of completing a book.

Gemotropolis is a fantastic read that will resonate with fans of fantasy. It left me eager for more installments in the series, and I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates well-crafted, imaginative storytelling. Jack Hailgo is a name to watch in the literary world, and I look forward to seeing what he creates next.

A Roadmap for Success

Nadeem Lutfullah Author Interview

Find The Ladder takes a close look at the modern workplace and the challenges faced in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. What inspired you to write this guide?

Having supported job seekers and career professionals for years, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact the pandemic had on livelihoods worldwide. Things turned really critical in the UAE where around 85% of the total population consists of expatriates, a unique situation that effected millions of workers. The sudden loss of jobs and the resulting economic instability created an urgent need for comprehensive guidance and support. My existing YouTube channel, while helpful, lacked the reach to address the widespread challenges many were facing. This realization motivated me to extend my efforts beyond digital content and move towards creating literary content.

In writing this book, I aimed to provide a deeper, more structured approach to navigating the modern workplace in the wake of COVID-19. My book addresses key issues such as remote work, skill diversification, and mental resilience, offering actionable strategies to help individuals adapt and thrive. By combining my extensive experience in career coaching with up-to-date research and real-world case studies, I aspired to create a resource that empowers readers to rebuild their careers and find new opportunities in these unprecedented times.

Can you share with us a little about the research required to put your book together?

To start my research for ‘Find the Ladder’, my first course of action was direct contact with the affected people on social platforms. I also had to conduct extensive online research, drawing from years of experience in career coaching and recruitment. I analyzed recent employment trends, interviewed a few recruitment and HR experts, and tried to gather firsthand perspectives about the future course of the employment scenario post-pandemic. Progressively, I continued incorporating data from reputable sources to ensure that the strategies and insights provided in the book are practical and relevant for today’s job market.

What is one thing you learned in your research that surprised you?

One of the most surprising insights from my research was the staggering percentage of individuals experiencing dissatisfaction in their careers. This revelation underscored a critical issue: many people feel unfulfilled and disengaged in their professional lives, leading to decreased productivity and overall well-being in their personal lives. I discovered that career dissatisfaction stems from multiple factors, which I ensured to address in ‘Find The Ladder’ to the maximum. These findings highlighted the importance of addressing career satisfaction not just for individual fulfillment but also for organizational success.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from Find the Ladder?

One key takeaway I hope readers gain from ‘Find The Ladder’ is the power of resilience and the impact of mindset-positivity in the face of adversity. The pandemic has reshaped the professional landscape, introducing unprecedented challenges and new concepts related to the overall employment scene. My goal is to empower and inspire readers to view these changes not as insurmountable challenges or obstacles, but as catalysts for growth through adaptability.

Through practical advice, strategic insights, and offering new methodologies, I want readers to understand that their career paths are not stagnant. They have the power to redefine their professional journeys, harnessing their unique strengths and passions. I hope to instill a sense of confidence and optimism, encouraging them to embrace continuous learning and proactive career management.

Ultimately, I want Find the Ladder to be a beacon of hope and a roadmap for success, guiding readers toward fulfilling sustainable careers in this new era. By adopting the principles outlined in the book, they can navigate the complexities of the modern workplace and emerge stronger, more adaptable, and ready to seize the opportunities ahead.

Shining Smith stands on the brink of achieving her goals, and yet now she could lose everything.

The presidents of four motorcycle clubs are coming to claim blood sacrifice and to ink her with motorcycle club tats. Her new roadhouse and its charter have to meet their approval or the roadhouse has no future, and neither does Shining.

An injured kid shows up at Smith’s Junk and Scrap, but collapses before he can speak.

A note arrives containing a warning and a plea for help, addressed by someone who knows Shining’s most intimate secrets—her history, her plans, and the names of her friends. The sender claims his daughter has been kidnapped by Shining’s enemies. To keep her secrets, he wants Shining to get his daughter back.

In order to rescue the hostage and keep her junkyard, her roadhouse, her people, and the cats alive, Shining Smith will have to suffer, fight, and bargain her way out of danger. All without accidently transitioning anyone—creating an accidental thrall—no matter how much her nanobots want her to.

Lock and load. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Shining Smith is ready to open her Junkyard Roadhouse and become the leader of her own club. It involves approval from the presidents of the other motorcycle clubs and painful tattoos. I slipped right in and became caught up when an injured man arrives. Once they get him patched up, they discover his uncle sent him because his daughter has been kidnapped. The tale that unfolds was action-packed.

Hunter has created a gritty, dangerous world laid desolate after wars. Technology is both cool and scary as Shining is infected. Then we have cats that communicate with her, and motorcycle gangs vying for territory, product and power. It is not a place for weak of heart. For each tidbit we learn, I want to know more… it’s addictive.

I love Shining and the motley crew she surrounds herself with from a lover to AI. All Shining and the others want is to live life on their terms. Each novella is well developed and contains a mission or situation while advancing the overall arc and relationships. I highly recommend listening in the order of their release.

Khristine Hvam does a stellar job of giving voice and personality to Shining, the cats, other characters and AI. She enhances my overall enjoyment of the tale. I couldn’t imagine not listening.

Fans of science fiction, post-apocalyptic worlds and well-developed characters need to grab this series.

Shattered

Shattered, Inspired By True Events by Jenell M. Jones, M.ED., is a powerful memoir that delves into the author’s personal journey of accepting the unchangeable and learning to tolerate the harsh realities of life. Jones’s raw and honest account of her experiences resonates deeply with readers, making this more than just one woman’s struggle—it’s a source of inspiration for anyone facing life’s challenges. Through her story, Jones invites readers to reflect on their own paths toward peace and healing, sharing how her decision to adopt a young girl, with the hope of transforming both their lives for the better, led to an unexpected and challenging journey.

The central theme of survival and endurance is poignantly portrayed in Shattered. Jones vividly illustrates the unexpected anguish that life can bring and demonstrates remarkable strength and resilience in the face of trauma. Her journey toward healing and self-discovery is both encouraging and uplifting, leaving readers with a powerful message: if she can overcome these obstacles, so can they. The book’s emphasis on perseverance and courage makes a lasting impact, reminding us all of the importance of endurance in our own lives. Jones’s storytelling is graphic and emotionally resonant, pulling readers into her world and making them feel the weight of her struggles. She skillfully conveys the unwanted efforts and sacrifices she made in her pursuit of inner peace, creating a narrative that is both relatable and deeply moving. The systemic critique woven throughout the book is another notable element. Jones’ experiences highlight the often-ignored flaws in the child welfare system, particularly how it handles children with traumatic backgrounds. Jones’ frustration with the system is palpable, and she effectively uses her personal story to advocate for better practices and more compassionate policies. This book serves as both a memoir and a critical commentary on a system that is in desperate need of reform.

Shattered, Inspired By True Events is a gripping and authentic memoir that will resonate with anyone who has faced life’s unexpected challenges. Jones’s courage in sharing her regrets and her raw emotions is a testament to the human experience, reminding us of our shared vulnerabilities. I highly recommend this book to everyone, as we all, at some point, must navigate the unforeseen changes life throws our way.

We Are All Human

Tony Salles Author Interview

The Coffee Traveler follows a young boy from an Amazon rainforest’s Tupi Guarani tribe who embarks on a journey of personal growth and the quest for purpose. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

The Coffee Traveler was influenced by my own childhood memories, which are a lot like Kauê’s life. Like him, I had to figure out who I was and what I was here to do while dealing with the weight of my cultural background (always being an outsider) and how nature shaped my growth.

What are some things that you find interesting about the human condition that you think make for great fiction?

The characters fight to find themselves, where they came from, and where they fit in. Moral standards in different cultures make right and wrong unclear. This allows the creation of characters by showing how conditions, feelings, and connections affect choices. It deepens stories and makes readers consider their ideals.

Stories of people who face their concerns, overcome obstacles, and develop from them are inspiring and relevant. Relationships also shape our lives. This is why love, friendship, betrayal, and conflict are excellent topics for studying human interaction.

Cultural and environmental variables provide dimension to stories because our histories and settings impact our identities and perspectives. Finally, finding purpose through love, employment, adventure, or self-discovery is a universal topic. Fiction that teaches characters and readers about living a meaningful life can be very educational. These human traits help readers think about their lives and keep them interested in the story. Great fiction comes from the range of human experience, with its ups and downs.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

The Coffee Traveler explores many deep themes that shape the story’s look at the human experience. Symbolizing the search for identity and change, Kauê’s trip shows how personal trauma and growth can change a person’s sense of who they are. Through Kauê’s tattoos and Caíque’s teachings, cultural heritage is also stressed, showing how important it is to understand and respect one’s roots as a key part of personal growth. Morality and its effects are at the heart of Kauê’s story, as his actions make you think about how complicated right and wrong, guilt, and why you make the choices you do are.

Kauê’s change into a hunter shows the theme of survival, both physically and emotionally. It’s a symbol of resilience and the inner power needed to get through a new world. The story’s relationships show how delicate the balance is between connection and isolation, as the characters fight with their needs for closeness and self-discovery. The way power works, especially in Nick’s case, shows how ego affects people and what real strength and leadership are. Another important theme is how nature and human relationships are linked. Caíque’s lessons stress the strong links between the natural world and community ties.

Along with these issues, the idea of male identity in modern society is very important. There is more and more talk about masculinity, often in terms of societal expectations and cultural changes. Men today often feel stuck between traditional roles and new social norms, which can cause an identity problem. This battle is a lot like Kauê’s journey as he tries to figure out who he is in a world where ideas of what it means to be a man are becoming more fluid and up for debate. Also, the novel makes a point of commenting on the larger talk about what it means to be a man in today’s society while telling a story of personal and cultural change.

What is one thing that people point out after reading your book that surprises you?

People kept telling me the story was dramatic and emotional. Readers relate to Kauê’s inner struggles and changes. Many didn’t expect the Amazon jungle and Tupi Guarani society story to have relatable identity and growth elements.

The adventure and rich culture hook readers in, but Kauê’s voyage frequently appeals to them personally by reminding them of their struggles. I’m thrilled that my writing about universal issues like meaning and human complexity resonates with people from all backgrounds. This gives me hope that stories may unite people and help them understand others, proving that we are all human despite our differences.

“The Coffee Traveler” is a captivating tale of redemption, transformation, and the enduring power of cultural wisdom. The narrative follows Kauê as he embarks on a journey of personal growth and the quest for purpose, set against the backdrop of the Amazon.

The conflict between his Indigenous heritage and modern society marks his journey as a nuanced exploration of identity. Focusing on character depth and thematic exploration, the story delves into Kauê’s transformation from a naive boy to a mature adult.
