That Magic Mischief follows an amateur witch struggling with a breakup and losing her job who encounters a shape-shifting creature who helps her cast a spell to get her life back on track. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

I have been always been interested in metaphysical topics and considered myself to be open-minded — until, on a trip to the Southwest, I saw an ad for a past-life regression/séance slumber party in a free Taos newspaper.

It made me laugh, and I thought, ‘What would these people do if something did come over from the other side, or the outer dimensions?’

That’s what happens to my heroine in That Magic Mischief: Annabelle Walsh works a spell that actually works and she’d not as prepared for it as she thought she’d be.

I had also emigrated to Ireland, after having lived in Brooklyn for over a decade, and I wanted to combine my nostalgia for Carroll Gardens with my love of my new home place. Making an Irish guy the romantic lead was a no-brainer.

What was the inspiration for the love story and the connection the characters have?

There’s a strong connection between them as they’re both creative types: Annabelle is a writer and Jamie is a painter. I liked that they had this in common, and that both had good imaginations. They’d need them to cope with Callie, for sure. I also wanted both to be flexible, which their approach to employment allowed them to be, so both could conceivably pick and move without too much hassle.

And if anyone thinks Jamie’s blasé acceptance of Annabelle’s ‘pooka problem’ isn’t believable, I invite you to travel around Ireland for a few weeks and have off-the-cuff conversations with folks about fairy trees, ghosts, and yes, pookas. (Pucá, in the Irish language)

How did you handle balancing the power and use of magic in the story?

What a great question! Every instance of power or use of magic is tied to an emotion: whether it’s Annabelle consulting the tarot because she wants the cards to tell her her ex is coming back, or when Callie, in one of her incarnations, gets some revenge for Annabelle regarding the aforementioned ex.

I think that when people are feeling uncertain or sad or confused, they turn to metaphysical means to see their way forward, or in the search for hope, and that’s how it works in the novel.

What is the next book that you’re working on, and when can your fans expect it?

I also write paranormal romance set in the Regency Era —Think Bridgerton meets shapeshifters. My current series, The Shapeshifters of the Beau Monde, is available from all good book outlets. I enjoy St. George and was delighted to begin The Stranger I Wed, the first novel in The Doves of New York featuring three sisters of questionable legitimacy. The girls and their mother have had a rough time of it and are discovered that their grandmother has reconsidered, leaving a sizable dowry to each. However, when they go to receive the funds, Mr. Hathaway refuses to release them until each is married. Cora doesn’t want to marry, but hatches a plan.

They travel to London where their host compiles a list of eligible bachelors and arranges a house party to meet them. The girls screen the men ahead of time and I adored the meet-cute between Cora and Leopold Brendon, Earl of Devonworth. I laughed and soon found myself caught up in their romance, or should I say, arrangement. *winks*

The author weaves in public health issues, women’s suffrage and plenty of banter, chemistry and wit. Cora is headstrong, passionate, and clever. She has this brilliant plan until she isn’t at all sure what she wants and I loved the story that unfolds. Leopold’s passion is in parliament fighting for justices and in protecting his family and restoring the Devonworth estate. He possesses a forward-thinking nature, making him the perfect candidate to unravel Cora’s well-devised strategies.

The romance felt genuine with immediate chemistry and a slow-burn romance that heated delightfully. I loved the tension, discoveries, and outcome.

I cannot wait for the next sister’s story. If you’re a fan of historical romance and strong female characters, you won’t want to miss The Stranger I Wed.

Eat Your Way Slim and Enjoy Every Bite shares with readers research-based facts on how to improve their diet to increase their health, not just lose weight. What were some goals you set for yourself as a writer in this book? 

My most important goal was to help readers understand the basic connection between what they eat or sometimes don’t eat and its impact on their overall health. Another would be the power of knowledge.  The more that a person understands the more informed decisions they can make for themselves.  Empowerment through inspiration is a passion of mine. 

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book? 

The ideas that were most important to me is that working out alone is not the solution to weight loss, over fixation on calories alone will drive you nuts and not help you achieve your actual goals and it is the types of calories that you are consuming that really make the difference if you want to succeed in your weight loss goals, to name a few. 

With so much conflicting information on weight loss and health, it can be a challenge to find proven facts. Did you find anything in your research of this book that surprised you? 

As I mentioned at the start of my book, this book is a derivative work bringing the timeless dietary wisdom of the late Donald G. Cooley to a new generation.  I don’t believe in reinventing the wheel and have no problem shedding light on a person who makes sense from another time to help those of today.  Much of his way of speaking and knowledge of health resonated with my own.  After my own alterations I was very eager to bring this knowledge to others. 

What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?

I have 3 books that are at various stages of development.  My sci-fi work in progress Fulfilling A Vow: In Search of Answers is about 90 percent complete, Mastering Your Scenes Conflict, is in its infancy as well as a new faith based book.
